Hall of Fame

So Emily had her hall of fame presentation today at her school. We all got up early, and got ready including little Jude. We then made our way through the sea of children back to the gym for their assembly. I wonder how excited the kids will be when they get to middle school, and realize they have an auditorium with seats. There were 11 kids that were being honored in the hall of fame. Emily was at the end, and we all sat their patiently. They went through their morning chants, songs, and "yee haws" which were very loud, and unfortunately sent Jude into a small seizure. I am pretty sure it was just sensory overload for him. Mike quietly took him out of the gym after Em received her award. I was actually very impressed with her schools assembly. It seems they spend ten minutes every day prior to class going over important information, and repeating their affirmations. They have a pledge they give about being a good person, and doing for others. They then sing a song about how they should believe in themselves, and be the best person they can be. I can see how Emily could be inspired by this.

During the assembly I noticed the row of special needs kids. It's amazing what I noticed now...small details. I saw that one child had headphones on, and I knew it was to avoid sensory overload. He had a nice assistant sitting beside him helping him with any issues. He could walk though, sit up, and participate! Good job! I love the fact the school included these children in their assembly, that made me smile.

So here are some pictures from today. Em's dad came and joined us so he is in the pictures too.

Hi Jen,

It's me from Blogger Moms. I am obviously new to your blog but am touched just as much as every mother that's come across it. It's hitting a very sensitive nerve in my heart; one that feels the sorrow, pain, heaviness and joy as you watch your own child go through the hurts and joys in life. This is such an awesome blog of powerful love; I'm so stuck reading in as much as I can. I can't seem to email check the email that I was waiting to get for over 1/2 an hour! Ha! Grab that Yahoo! LOL. On a serious note though; I am genuinely enjoying reading the love that your entire family seems to shower little Jude with. It's very, very inspiring indeed!!
